Our main objective is to support the development and maintenance of urban open spaces for Windhoek residents. Greenspace leases the Avis Dam and surrounds (almost 300 hectares) from the City of Windhoek. We manage the natural environment and human activities at the dam in accordance with a Management Plan that is approved by the CoW and Greenspace members.
Our vision is to establish, protect and manage greenbelt networks in urban Namibia. Through co-operation with local authorities and community involvement, Greenspace is working towards an urban open space system for Windhoek, which links existing and potential parks, recreation spaces, riverbeds, ridges, conservation areas and other potential urban open spaces. In line with its vision, Greenspace manages the Avis dam area in terms of a long-term lease agreement with the Windhoek City Council.
