Invitation to attend a workshop on the development of regulations for strategic environmental assessment (SEA) and environmental impact assessment (EIA)

The Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) is undertaking a stakeholder consultation process for developing Environmental Management Act (No. 7 of 2007) regulations. They plan three “Focus Group Workshops” in Windhoek, and three in Swakopmund. The groups they wish to consult with in both localities, are (1) Line Ministries and their associated parastatals, (2) private sector proponents and (3) environmental practitioners and NGOs.

The workshop dates and venues are:

  • Windhoek Private Sector/developers/proponents – Thursday 19 October, 08.30-13h00 at METs Training Boardroom, Phillip Troskie Building, cnr of Robert Mugabe and Dr Kenneth Kaunda Street
  • Windhoek Environmental Practitioners and NGOs - Friday 20 October, 08.30-13h00  (same venue)
  • Coastal Private Sector/developers/proponents – Monday 23 October, 08.30-13h00 at Swakopmund Plaza Hotel
  • Coastal Environmental Practitioners and NGOs - Monday 23 October, 14.00-17h00  (same venue)
  • Coastal Line Ministries and their associated parastatals - Tuesday 24 October, 08h30-13h00  (same venue)
  • Windhoek Line Ministries and their associated parastatals - Thursday 26 October, 08h30-13h00. METs Training Boardroom, Phillip Troskie Building, cnr of Robert Mugabe and Dr Kenneth Kaunda Street.

The workshops will be facilitated by Professor Barry Dalal-Clayton, with support from the Southern African Institute for Environmental Assessment (SAIEA). We expect a constructive exchange of ideas on how to improve the Act and the respective regulations.
